The CPL filter is mainly used for polarization removal; and enhances the contrast of the moon and planets in photographic images. It is a multi-band pass filter that transmits a high percentage of light in the visual spectrum; effectively filters the selective wavelengths of low pressure sodium and other man-made sources commonly used in street lighting.

5 color filters are an essential tool for the moon and planets, with red, green, blue, orange and yellow highlighting the features of Mars, Jupiter and Saturn.
